This genus of bulbs (strictly tubers, but looking like corms!) from South Africa have grassy, but somewhat hairy, leaves, and a succession of pretty, short-stemmed flowers, often bright pink, almost red, but sometimes paler pinks or white. They come from alpine grassland, and in cultivation are best given some protection from excess water in winter, although we grow them well in troughs without any protection at all. The hybrids of Rhodohypoxis with Hypoxis are called x Rhodoxis (sorry about the nomenclature!) are very similar.
