A stunning, brilliantly red Meconopsis. The over-wintering rosette sends up many stems, each with one flower, with amazingly long hanging petals opening from the hairy buds. Flowers are produced over a long period, a few flowers at a time. Usually the plants are monocarpic, and if at all possible seed should be obtained, and sown as soon as it is ripe. Once in a blue moon a plant turns out to be a hybrid with Meconopsis quintuplinervia - in which case you will have the rare Meconopsis x cookei, with pink instead of red flowers
