Meconopsis (Himalayan blue poppies)
The magical, big blue poppies are famed not just for their colour, but also for being tricky to grow. However, if a few key cultivation points are followed you should be able to enjoy them year after year.

Firstly, they need to be kept out of the sun. They thrive in dappled shade, in a cool, humid environment. They also dislike strong winds and are very hungry feeders! If you can't provide such a location to begin with, all is not lost. You can grow them in a large pot and move them around until you find the spot they are happiest in.

If you are a beginner and are trying growing them for the first time, we would recommend Meconopsis 'Lingholm', as it is a strong, vigorous plant ideal for the novice.
