Matteuccia struthiopteris is a splendid structural plant, with the remarkable shuttlecock effect of the conical array of upright, slightly spreading fronds retained from when they emerge in spring right through to autumn. The fruiting stems are dark brown, a distinctive contrast to the foliage.
Deciduous fern which produces lance-shaped 'shuttlecocks' in Spring.
