The group of lilies called martagon hybrids is derived from several reliable species, such as L. martagon and hansonii. They have the characteristic 'turkscap' flowers - a term which continues to be used despite having not had a relevant meaning for at least a century! It means that the petals are curved back, showing the spots on the petals and the anthers, which are covered in bright orange or dark red pollen. Like their parents they are relatively easy to grow, and in suitable conditions (partial shade, simulating a woodland edge) they should be long-lived. Most forms are scented.

Lilium 'Sunny Morning' has flowers that are dark creamy yellow, spotted deep reddish orange.
